I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Österlen, Sweden.
I have worked as professional photographer and retoucher for over 20 years. For a long time though, I wanted to find a more tactile way of creating than the camera could offer. A desire for color and brush strokes. So in 2022 I began to paint.
My work revolves around questions of consciousness and embodiment. I grew up as an only child, living in the Finnish archipelago, where I spent as many hours drawing and painting in my room as playing alone in nature. I am driven by a longing for that timeless, dreamlike state of presence and wonder in play - that so often withers away as we get older.
The organic, colorful and abstract shapes and layers in my paintings draw from imagination, elements in nature, baroque landscape painting and Finnish pattern design. My process is mostly - but not completely - intuitive, differing from my mainly planned approach in photography. Sometimes my paintings also become textile pieces or installations.
I believe that today’s artificial lifestyle disconnects humanity from our origin, nature, each other, our inner selves, purpose and the holy. Where efficiency floods every system, the slow process of creating and interacting with art helps us reconnect and understand who we are.
